Local Adviser nominated for top award

Geanette, a local volunteer adviser at Sutton Borough  Citizens Advice Bureau has been shortlisted in the ‘Adviser of the year’ category for the prestigious national Citizens Advice awards.

The awards were launched earlier this year to recognise the contribution that other organisations and individuals have made in upholding fair treatment for all in their own distinct way. The awards also coincide with the service’s 70th Anniversary celebrations which began on 4 September 2009.

David Harker, Chief Executive of national charity Citizens Advice stated:

“Geanette works tirelessly for the people of the local area. Without our army of dedicated advisers who are passionate about getting justice for their clients, there simply wouldn’t be a Citizens Advice service.

“ Geanette embodies the spirit of the Citizens Advice service; respectful and non judgemental, always putting clients at ease, and setting out practical options in a clear and understandable way.”

Offering advice from 3,300 locations across the country, the Citizens Advice service last year helped over 2 million people to solve 6 million problems. Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity and over 21,000 of the people involved in the service are trained volunteers.

Ann Kinahan, Chief Executive of Sutton Borough Citizens Advice Bureau stated: “Geanette is a pleasure to work with and a valued member of our team. Since the start of the recession we have seen unprecedented numbers through our doors. If it wasn’t for the drive and commitment of advisers like Geanette we simply wouldn’t be able to operate. We should be proud that our local area has such dedicated advisers ensuring everyone that needs it, receives free and impartial advice.”

The awards will be presented on the evening of 19 January 2010 during a gala dinner at The Dorchester Hotel in London.
