Welfare Benefits

Welfare BenefitsIf you have an enquiry about welfare benefits, you may need to act without delay. In most cases, it is not possible to backdate a welfare benefit claim. If you want to challenge a decision relating to social security benefits, e.g. housing benefit, Disability Living Allowance and Income Support etc you need to contact the office that made the decision within one month. If you want to challenge a decision relating to Tax Credits (Working Tax Credits or Child Tax Credits) you need to contact the Tax Credit office within 30 days. If you want to challenge a decision on your entitlement to a community care grant, a budgeting loan or a crisis loan you have to contact the social fund office within 28 days.

You may be able to obtain an immediate answer to your enquiry by visiting the welfare benefit section of adviceguide the Citizens Advice Bureau Services online service that provides up to date independent information about your rights.
